Grow in Devizes - Sustainable Devizes

Since everybody needs to eat, an interest in food is something that we all share! Sustainable Devizes is keen to promote and encourage local food production both as a way of making the area more resilient to disruption of global food supplies and as a way of bringing people together. Our long running Local Food Directory can be used to find local food producers, whist our more recent Growing In Devizes event aims to make growing fruit and vegetables a part of everyday life in the Devizes area.

Seed Swap

Sustainable Devizes holds an annual Seed Swap event in St Andrew’s Church. This is a great opportunity to trade seeds for free in advance of the growing season. The basic idea of the event is for people to bring along any spare seeds they may have to swap for different types of seed that they may wish to try growing.

Food Directory

Sustainable Devizes believe that local independent businesses benefit the area hugely and in many ways. At this time many local food producers and suppliers have really shown their worth by helping to keep us fed, often when the large supermarkets have been struggling to cope.

This version of the local food directory aims to provide help in finding sources of local food during the lockdown. With the pace of change it is hard to keep this completely accurate, so if you spot any errors or know of any other businesses we should list here then please let us know

Incredible Edible

Following on from the updating of our Local Food Directory we have been looking at other ways to further local food production. The Incredible Edible Network started in Todmorden, Yorkshire, with a small group who started planting vegetables around the town allowing anyone who wanted to harvest the produce. We have started to investigate how to introduce Incredible Edible in Devizes.
