Biodiversity Devizes

Community Biodiversity Strategy

To build on Greening Devizes, Sustainable Devizes is working with the Town Council to develop a Biodiversity Strategy.  We have teamed up with local professional environmentalist and a professional conservationist who are volunteering their time. The aim is to work with other biodiversity community groups and interested individuals to collaboratively develop strategy which will identify our biodiversity assets and provide plans for maintaining, protecting and enhancing biodiversity in Devizes .

Annual Seed and Plant Swaps

Each year we organise a Seed Swap in February where surplus seeds can be passed on so keep your eyes on the events calendar for this event.  Plus each May we repeat the process with a Plant Swap making sure that surplus plants don’t go to waste. More info will go out on our social media and the events calendar.

Greening Devizes

Devizes Town Council’s ‘Greening Devizes’ is an initiative which aims to plant hundreds of trees and hectares of wildflower mini‑meadows throughout the town. Working in partnerships with individual residents, schools and community groups we will support and deliver these plantings to ensure the right trees in the right place, wildflower plantings where appropriate and ensure after‑care and maintenance. Planting trees and improving biodiversity is also our investment in the future for the generations that will follow. Our cost-effective initiative, supported in part by government grants, will provide many benefits. Click on the logo below to find out more.

Making a home for wildlife in your garden…

‘The virus has taught us that we are part of nature, not above it’ Chris Packham interview in The Guardian

Conservation starts at home! Much of our native wildlife is in decline, from a reduction of natural habitats to global warming. However there are some things we can all do to create a home for wildlife in our gardens. Plant a tree… Plant wildflowers… Create access to your garden… Create a pond… Put up a bird feeder… and they will come.
