Bus and Train
Devizes Passengers was delighted to merge with Sustainable Devizes last year. A natural step which has the advantage of reaching a wider audience. If you are interested in transport please consider joining our small but tenacious group.
Connect 2 Wiltshire (See also Pewsey/Devizes Facebook page)
This is a flexible service operating in the Pewsey Vale that offers a direct service to Pewsey Station. The rail link for Devizes has the greatest potential that has not yet been realised. The services are vulnerable to Wiltshire Council's bus cuts. We work closely with Devizes Community Area Partnership (DCAP) and Pewsey Community Area Partnership (PCAP) to ensure that the passengers' travel needs are met and that the service is properly marketed. The timetables are available here.
Devizes Town Bus
The Town Bus services are an obvious candidate for helping reduce peak time traffic. DCAP and Devizes Passengers led a review of the Town Bus funded by Wiltshire Council. This was eclipsed by two events: the operator went bust throwing calculations out, and a county wide bus review which threatened all bus services in and around Devizes. Wiltshire Council were overwhelmed with 11,000 spirited objections and dramatically reduced those ambitions. However the county elections have ushered in a new opportunity to review the review!
We would like to urge the new Council to re-calculate the value of re-routing the Town Bus services in the light of developments at Lay Wood to the north and the NHS Urgent Care Centre planned on the eastern outskirts of Devizes (at Marshall Road). The Air Quality group affords the best way forward.
Service 33 to Chippenham
The operator of the 33/X33 to Chippenham, APL ceased trading last January and the route taken over by Faresaver. Faresaver has reviewed the frequency, cutting a commuter service to Chippenham station causing untold difficulties for regular passengers whom they failed to consult. Please follow the latest news about this service on Devizes Passengers Facebook page.
Bus stop information and timetables
We were responsible for the spider map at the bus shelters in the Market Place. They are now out of date. It is unlikely that the Public Transport Unit will review them without community fund raising. Another project on our to do list!
On our wish list: Real Time Information screens at the bus shelters in the Market Place and along key bus routes.
Bus timetables are no longer published by the Public Transport Unit. They are available at Devizes Library, Age UK and at the Sustainable Devizes Friday stall.
